dreams a' bobbling
Like I mentioned in my Olive Delights this week, I am just a stand-in art teacher this year.  The current art teacher is taking a sabbatical year, so I was offered the position.  I am really enjoying my time.  The students are great and I have a lot of freedom as to what I can teach.  I didn't realize how much I have really missed teaching art.  I have scooted right back into the role and am really loving it.  I thoroughly enjoy seeing my students learn new things, have aha moments, and have fun with materials. Since the day I took the job as art teacher, last spring, I have had less desire and heart for my vintage shop.  I have quite a high work ethic, so when I learned I would be taking over the art position I began to prepare mentally right away.  Being an art teacher requires much more heart and creativity than being an assistant teacher (which I had been doing the past two years).

It was a mystery where my desire and creativity for my blog and shop have gone the past 6 months. I am realizing that it was my acceptance of the art position that has diminished my drive for my business. I don't think this is a bad thing.  I am spending a lot more time and energy in my art teaching and that is where it should be.  But I do miss working for myself part-time and having great desire to be creative on my own.

Teaching art has also increased my desire to create my own art.  Seeing my students plan out their pieces and make great works of art inspires me to create. I have been taking baby steps to spend some of my time creating things for pleasure, without a product in mind.

I most likely will not be able to stay on as an art teacher next year.  At least not at the school I am currently working.  Which is a bummer, but that means I am open to new things and opportunities. I have a lot of dreams and ideas bobbling around in my head.

One thing I have been thinking about doing, even this year, is teaching art online.  Maybe writing a short online course...

What do you think?

Would you rather take a short online drawing, photography, or printmaking course?
